Teen killed in Laventille Sat 27 June 2015 - 19-year-old Anthony Richards of Picton was on his way to visit his mother at Upper St Barbs in Laventille Saturday morning.
Around 10:30 AM the car he was riding in was intercepted by another and forced to pull over onto the side of the road. Men got out and dragged the teenager out of the car and shot him, leaving him lying wounded on the side of the road.
Police arrived shortly and rushed the bleeding youth to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died from his wounds.
His mother, Antoinette Richards, said her youngest child was a Community-based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Company (CEPEP) worker who avoided trouble. (more)
Central Trinidad rampage Wed 24 June 2015 - Two men in a stolen car went on a shooting rampage Wednesday night in central Trinidad. The gunmen first wounded two brothers and then murdered 19-year-old Akiel Tallan of High Road, La Brea.
Around 9:00 PM police received reports that brothers Anwar and Jamal Young had been shot in the front yard of their Flamingo Street, Couva, home. Reports were that two men in a silver car pulled up and the armed passenger opened fire, spraying bullets at the brothers.
The shooters then sped away and went onward to Teelucksingh Street, California, where they then shot to death Tallan in front of a house where he was having his hair braided. The teen was shot multiple times about the body and was declared dead at the crime scene.
Police later found the stolen car abandoned nearby at Cemetery Street in California. (more)
Cunupia teen killed Mon 22 June 2015 - A group of friends were liming at a basketball court on Kernahan Trace, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia, Monday night. Around 9:00 PM a white car pulled alongside and a gunman rolled down the window and started shooting.
19-year-old Isa Jawara, who lived nearby, was hit by bullets in the head, back, and leg. The car sped away as the group of limers scattered in every direction.
Police and Emergency Health Services were called and Jawara was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility for emergency treatment. He was later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he died of his wounds.
Police think the murder might be linked to a fight Jawara had with a group of men in Las Lomas two weeks ago. (more)
Autopsy confirms murder Mon 22 June 2015 - On Tuesday June 16, 48-year-old Rahman "Ash" Mohammed was reported missing to police after he failed to return home from a day of fishing. Five days later, relatives discovered his body down a steep precipice in the Fond Palmiste area of Diego Martin.
Police spent two days extracting the body from the difficult terrain. The next day an autopsy determined the father of two was murdered. He had been shot in the face.
Mohammed, of Bridge Road, Diego Martin, was known in the area for his hunting and fishing skills. Family members say they have no idea why he was murdered.
Police currently have no motive or suspects in the killing. (more)
Murder #188: Male, 51 years old, stabbed to death.
Couva twice in one day Mon 22 June 2015 - A private hire (PH) taxi driver was stabbed to death Monday afternoon in Couva.
Around 1:00 PM, 51-year-old Roopnarine "Dar" Seepersad was driving down Exchange Road in Couva with a 23-year-old passenger from St Andrew’s Village.
The two men got into a argument when the passenger demanded the keys to Seepersad's car. Seerpersad pulled the car over and the two men got out and started fighting. The 23-year-old then pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed Seepersad about the body, killing him.
The stabbing was witnessed by multiple people in the area who called police.
After stabbing Seepersad, the killer then took the car keys and sped off. (more)
Couva home invasion Mon 22 June 2015 - The door to an apartment in Couva was broken down Monday morning around 2:20 AM. Inside the apartment a mother and son were awakened by the noise and cowered in fear.
At the apartment complex on June Street, Lisas Gardens, Couva, gunmen entered the apartment and shot 34-year-old Adisa "Disa" Oginga nine times. His mother, 55-year-old Cecilia Maxwell, stayed in her bedroom during the incident and was unharmed.
When the men started breaking down the door, Maxwell was awakened by the noise. She pushed a chest of drawers in front of her bedroom door and crouched in the corner of her bedroom praying. She heard nine gunshots and then silence.
After a few minutes, the mother ventured outside her bedroom where she found her son lying dead on the floor in front of his bedroom door.
Neighbors called police during the incident, a party of whom arrived to begin their investigation. (more)
Beaten with a piece of iron Fri 19 June 2015 - A 45-year-old construction worker, Rafeek Ishmael, received a telephone call Thursday night about a job.
The resident of Standard Road, Fyzabad, went to meet the caller and while walking home from the meeting, he was ambushed by a man, who emerged from the bushes, and beat him about the head and body with a piece of iron. The attack occurred just a short distance from Ishmael's home around 9:30 PM.
Police were called and the victim was transported to the nearby Siparia Health Facility for emergency treatment. He was later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital. Ishmael told police who his attacker was and he said the man beat him until he pretended to be dead.
On Friday afternoon around 12:15 PM, Ishmael succumbed to his wounds. (more)
Cemetery gate murder Wed 17 June 2015 - The telephone rang for Simeon Gibbs Waldron, 22, of Church Street, Golconda, Wednesday night around 10:30 PM. He answered and talked for a few minutes and then told his sister, Simone, he was going to meet a girl nearby.
Less than an hour later gunshots rang out near Cemetery Street, Rambert Village, Golconda. Police were called and when they arrived they found Waldron lying face down on the ground before the cemetery gate, dead from a single bullet wound to the head.
The young man, who worked as a loader at the San Fernando Corporation, was declared dead at the crime scene by the District Medical Officer (DMO), who ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for an autopsy.
Police currently have no motive for the killing, since Waldron was never arrested and he was unknown to them. (more)
